The New7Wonders Foundation
The New7Wonders Foundation is the organization behind the original New7Wonders of the World (human-made wonders) campaign which concluded in 2007 and the current New7Wonders of Nature campaign which concludes on November 11, 2011.
The Swiss-based non-profit New7Wonders Foundation was established in 2001 by the Swiss-born Canadian filmmaker, author, and adventurer Bernard Weber.
The Foundation’s objective is to contribute to the protection of the world’s human-built and natural heritage and to foster respect for our planet’s diversity.
Its goal is to create sustainable values by raising global and individual awareness of our responsibility to protect and preserve our cultural and natural heritage.
The New7Wonders of Nature Campaign
The New7Wonders of Nature campaign is the second global election managed by the New7Wonders Foundation. The campaign was launched immediately following the declaration of the New7Wonders of the World (human-made) on 07.07.07.
The New7Wonders of Nature campaign highlights and celebrates the beauty of the planet, fostering a greater respect for the earth’s fragile natural equilibrium.
During the first phase of the New7Wonders of Nature campaign, 441 sites from 222 countries were nominated. The campaign progressed through various voting stages until the top 28 global finalists were declared in July 2009.
The final New7Wonders of Nature will be selected by public New 7 Wonders voting, both online and by SMS (text). Even children can vote in this unique exercise in worldwide democracy.
More than one billion votes are expected leading up to the Official Declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature on November 11, 2011.
